What is the Leed Seal?
The Leed seal, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was created in 1993 by the United States Green Building Council in the United States. Today it is in 160 countries and works through scoring.
According to GBC Brazil, Brazil is in fourth place in the position of buildings with LEED certification. Today, there are around 600 projects with this recognition. Read the article by clicking here.

How does LEED certification work?
According to Green Building Council explains on its website, the project that wishes to receive certification must undergo an evaluation process in several categories.
- Sustainable space
- Rational use of water
- Energy and atmosphere
- Location and transport
- Materials and resources
- Integrative process
- Quality of the built environment
- Innovation
- Regional Priority Credits
The higher the score, the higher the certificate level, divided into:
(Leed Certified) 40 to 49 points
(Leed Silver) 50 to 50 points
(Leed Gold) 60 to 79 points
(Leed Platinum) 80 to 110 points

In addition, there are some typologies that depend on the complexity of the nature and the project. The most used in Brazil are:
- Leed for New Buildings and Major Renovations (Leed BD+C)
- LEED for Interior Design and Construction (ID+C)
- LEED for Operation and Maintenance of Existing Buildings (LEED O+M)
- Leed for Neighborhood Development (Leed ND)

The Leed Seal encourages transformation in projects and works, focusing on sustainability, such as:
- Reduced energy consumption
- Improving air and water quality
- Reduction of waste
- Ecosystem protection
- It provides an improvement in the health, quality of life and comfort of those who occupy these buildings
- It brings a competitive advantage in the market, now that consumers are increasingly taking into account sustainable practices when deciding to buy
